Street Light Pole Types: How to Choose Height, Arm and Finish

Single-arm, double-arm, decorative and high-mast poles — how to pick the right pole for roads, societies and open areas.

The right street light pole depends on what you're lighting, how wide the area is, and the environment it will stand in for years.

By arm configuration

  • Single-arm — one luminaire, typical for one side of a road or a path.
  • Double-arm — two luminaires, for wider roads or medians.
  • Decorative — for housing societies, parks and commercial frontages.
  • Flood-light poles — for grounds, yards and parking.
  • High-mast structures — one tall mast lighting a large open area.

Height and reach

Pole height, arm length and spacing are chosen together to achieve even light across the area without dark patches — taller poles with wider spacing for open areas, shorter for paths and streets.

Durability

Because poles live outdoors, base plates, wall thickness and finish (galvanizing or powder coat) matter as much as height. Get the foundation detail right for wind and soil conditions.

NIXCO fabricates poles to your required height, arm and mounting, with base plates and accessories to suit the luminaire and foundation.
