Setting Up a TV or Podcast Studio: A Planning Checklist

From space and acoustics to cameras, switching and lighting — the pieces that make a studio work, in the order to plan them.

A studio that looks great but sounds bad — or can't be operated smoothly — wastes the budget. Plan these pieces together, in roughly this order.

1. Space and acoustics

Start with the room: size, layout and acoustic control. Soundproofing keeps outside noise out; acoustic treatment makes voices record cleanly. Get this right before decorating.

2. Set design

Anchor desks, feature walls, LED/video-wall integration and lighting positions — designed around your brand and the shots you need.

3. Cameras and switching

  • Cameras (studio, PTZ or broadcast) matched to your shots.
  • A video switcher/production switcher to cut between sources live.
  • Routing, monitoring and recording/streaming for output.

4. Audio and lighting

Microphones, a mixer, monitoring and intercom for clean sound; a lighting plan that flatters presenters and suits the cameras.

5. Integration

Finally, integrate everything into one working system and train the operators. NIXCO handles the full path — set design, soundproofing, acoustics, lighting and broadcast/AV integration (including Blackmagic Design, Datavideo and ITC equipment) — under one roof.
