Two of the most confused terms in studio design solve very different problems — and most rooms need both.
Soundproofing
Soundproofing reduces sound transmitting into or out of a room — stopping traffic, HVAC or neighbouring noise from reaching your microphones, and keeping your production from disturbing others. It relies on mass, isolation and sealing.
Acoustic treatment
Acoustic treatment controls how sound behaves inside the room — taming echo, reverberation and reflections so voices and instruments record cleanly. It uses absorption, bass traps and diffusion.
Which do you need?
- Noise leaking in or out? That's a soundproofing problem.
- Room sounds echoey or harsh on recordings? That's acoustic treatment.
- Most professional studios need a combination, designed around the room's purpose.
NIXCO designs both together as part of complete studio builds — from space planning to acoustic treatment and AV integration.
