Choosing the Right Fire Extinguisher Type

ABC dry powder, CO₂, foam, water and clean agent each suit different fires. Match the extinguisher to the risk in each area.

Using the wrong extinguisher can make a fire worse. Match the type to the fuel most likely to burn in each area.

The main types

  • ABC dry powder — versatile, for solids, flammable liquids and gas; general-purpose.
  • CO₂ — for electrical and server rooms; leaves no residue.
  • Foam — for flammable liquids and solids.
  • Water — for ordinary combustibles like wood and paper (never on electrical or liquids).
  • Clean agent — for sensitive electronics and equipment rooms.

Placement matters

Extinguishers must be the right type, correctly sized, and located for quick access along escape routes — with regular inspection so they work when needed.

Tell NIXCO the area and hazard and we'll recommend and supply the right extinguishers, plus the hoses, reels and cabinets to go with them.
