MCC vs PCC Panels: How to Tell Them Apart

Motor control centres and power control centres do related but distinct jobs. Here's how they differ and how they work together in a plant.

MCC and PCC panels are both major LT assemblies, but they serve different purposes in an installation.

PCC — Power Control Centre

A PCC receives incoming power and distributes it to downstream panels, MCCs and loads, with protection, metering and control. Think of it as the main power hub, usually with an ACB incomer and heavy busbars.

MCC — Motor Control Centre

An MCC groups motor starters (DOL, star-delta, soft-start or VFD) with protection and control, feeding and protecting multiple motors from one lineup.

How they work together

  • A PCC typically feeds one or more MCCs.
  • The MCC then controls and protects the individual motors.
  • Both can include control desks (PCCP / MCCP) for operator control.

NIXCO manufactures both to your motor schedule and distribution scheme, with the form of separation your specification calls for.
